Marie Berliner

has more than 35 years of experience, dedicating her career to health care regulatory law since 1988, focusing on Medicare, Medicaid, and state law matters. She provides comprehensive counsel on compliance with state and federal regulations, including EMTALA, survey responses, and operational issues for healthcare providers. Her current practice emphasizes representation of hospitals, hospital systems, and hospice providers, but she has also counseled physician clinics, pharmacies, and home health agencies.

Marie earned her J.D. from George Washington University School of Law in 1988 and completed her undergraduate studies at Tufts University in 1984. During law school, she served as a Legal Fellow in the office of Senator George Mitchell, then Chair of the Senate Finance Health Subcommittee.  Her professional journey includes broad experience at prestigious firms, including serving as Senior Counsel at Joy & Young, LLP since 2012, and as a founding member of Lambeth & Berliner, PLLC. Earlier in her career, she gained valuable experience at Gardner, Carton & Douglas and Wood, Lucksinger & Epstein in Washington, D.C., where she focused on Medicare Part A matters and participated in important lobbying efforts.

She maintains active membership in several professional organizations, including the American Health Law Association and American Bar Association, and was formerly on the Hospice Committee of the Texas Association for Home Care and Hospice. She is licensed to practice in Texas and holds inactive memberships in the Maryland and District of Columbia Bars.

Her knowledge is widely recognized in the healthcare law community, as evidenced by her dozens of speaking engagements at major industry conferences and her numerous contributions to professional publications, including her recent co-authorship of “Chapter 21: EMTALA” in the American Health Law Association’s Representing Hospitals and Health Systems, Second Edition (2024).
